MAROUBRA BEACH, SYDNEY (Tuesday, 31 October 2017): Over-200 of Australia’s and the world’s most promising male and female surfers will call Cabarita home when the Mothernest Tweed Coast Pro hits its shores in early 2018.

The World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) 1000 competition – which will form the second of four stops on the Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series  – will take place from 31 January – 4 February, 2018.

It is estimated over 20 different countries will be represented when the five-day event gets underway.

Member for Tweed Geoff Provest said the event would provide a significant boost to the local visitor economy.

“The Tweed Coast Pro is part of the NSW Pro Surf Series, which this year contributed over $1.1 million to the State’s visitor economy and attracted more than 800 overnight visitors across the four events,” Mr Provest said.

“Hundreds of surfers and fans from around the world will not only enjoy our famous surf breaks, but the spectacular hospitality our region is famous for. I look forward to seeing Cabarita Beach packed with competitors and spectators in February.”

Coming onboard for 2018 is Mothernest as the naming-rights partner, who believes the event will bolster an already strong partnership with Surfing NSW.

“Mothernest is excited to be the new naming rights sponsor for the prestigious 2018 and 2019 Tweed Coast Pro WSL events. This opportunity is a natural progression from the great partnership that Mothernest enjoys with Surfing NSW,” said Mothernest Sales and Marketing Director David Mumford.

“We are looking forward to a successful event at Cabarita Beach and the continued support from Surfing NSW in promoting a healthy lifestyle and our products.”

Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden has witnessed the growth of the Mothernest Tweed Coast Pro since its inception and believes 2018 will be bigger and better than ever.

“The Mothernest Tweed Coast Pro is one of the most desired events on our calendar,” said Madden. “With an airport only 20 minutes north, Cabarita is an awesome location for interstate and international competitors alike. We can’t wait to see it all unfold again in 2018.”

Destination Tweed Chairman Aymon Gow believes the event will bring a welcome boost to the region on the back of the summer holiday rush.

“We welcome the Tweed Coast Pro as the busy summer holiday period winds down. The event will bring a boost to our member's businesses in February, traditionally a quieter month on the Tweed. The event will also bring the opportunity for local up-and-coming surfers to see some of the best surfers in the world compete on their doorstep.”
